Our Mission
The BFUWI in the United Kingdom will operate as a professional UK charity in compliance with the rules and regulations of the governing UK Charities Commission to raise finance and other material support for The University of the West Indies through promotional and relationship building activities, principally in the UK. Through its activities the BFUWI will:
- Contribute to the goals of the UWI Regional Endowment Fund
- Promote and recognise the Caribbean’s intellectual and cultural development and world-wide contributions
- Promote the University’s name recognition in the UK and the wider European Union
- Foster positive, harmonious relationships between the British and Caribbean peoples
- Strengthen relationships between Caribbean Diaspora people and the Caribbean
Our Objective
The objectives of the British Foundation for The University of the West Indies are:
- To raise funds for the UWI from the UK in a tax efficient manner from all possible sources – individuals, companies, organizations, partnership arrangements
- To innovate diverse ways of translating the support of well-wishers in the UK into tangible benefits for the University and the Caribbean Region
- To establish, promote and develop mutually beneficial relationships with key UK potential and actual benefactors
- To facilitate positive and informed awareness-raising of the UWI and the wider issue of Caribbean development in the UK context
- To collaborate and partner with the UWIAA UK Chapter in activities of mutual benefit to Alumni and the Alma Mater
